For those choosing to drive, keep in mind that the wedding and hotel locations are near Cape Cod and the coast. Traffic is very heavy on all major roadways heading toward the Cape in the summer - beginning on Friday afternoons through the evenings and, to a lesser extent, Saturday mornings.
A good source for traffic information in Massachusetts is SmarTraveler, which not only provides traffic information on the web but also provides real time updates accessible by mobile phone on 617-374-1234. When you call the number it will prompt you for the road number you want information on, so remember to have that information handy.
For anyone who plans on driving from the Metro New York area and points south, including PA and DC, we strongly encourage you choose to depart for Massachusetts on the morning of Friday August 10th or earlier due to the extreme summer traffic along the coast from NJ, through NYC and CT. Traffic build ups start just after noon on Fridays in NJ, NY and CT. If driving from south of New York City we would also suggest going around New York City by taking the Tappan Zee Bridge/Interstate-287 to the north of the city. Although this adds mileage to the journey, it is on-average quicker since you avoid part of the New Jersey Turnpike and all the bottlenecks and troubles that can come with trying to get through Manhattan and the Bronx. The Tappan Zee Bridge will not be without traffic, but it will be a much less stressful drive.
For traffic information in the NYC-NJ-CT area tune to AM 1010 (traffic every 10 minutes on the 1s) and AM 880 (traffic every 10 minutes on the 8s).
A note for those driving through Rhode Island from the south: Most directions will instruct you to take Exit 5 off of I-195. I-195 runs through Rhode Island and Massachusetts and there are Exit 5s in each state so pay attention to the mileage and the signs to ensure that you are taking the second Exit 5 for Route 79/Taunton that is in Massachusetts.
