Escola Familia Agricola - Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais, Brazil
In order to provide children living in remote rural areas with an education, improve the agricultural techniques used in rural communities, and give youth practical life skills, CCF has established an innovative middle school in the Jequitinhonha Valley - one of the poorest regions in all of Brazil.  This school delivers a full educational curriculum to 120 youth aged 12 and older, and trains them in basic agricultural and farming techniques. These students – selected by their communities – live at the school, in dorm-like facilities, when classes are in session.  The school implements a participatory approach to learning and teachers work closely with the students to implement their individualized learning plans.  When school is not in session, students return to their homes to train community members in the new, environmentally friendly, and sustainable agriculture techniques acquired.  The school is now hoping to raise funds to increase the number of children who can attend the school and to expand its class offerings through high school.
 
Weaving the Safety Net - Kiambu and Thika, Central Province, Kenya
Approximately 650,000 children in Kenya have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. CCF has been working with these children since 1996.  In 2005, with support from USAID and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, CCF launched the Weaving the Safety Net program in two districts, Kiambu and Thika, in the Central Province. This five-year program was established to alleviate the impact of HIV/AIDS on orphaned and vulnerable children through expanded psychosocial care, access to education and health services, and improved community protection for HIV-affected and other vulnerable children and youth. Income generation services are also provided to help households sustain program benefits beyond the life of the project.
